Adoption Home Study
The home study is prepared by a licensed Social Worker it is a written report of the findings after he/she has met with the applicants on several occasions, both individually and together at our office. At least one meeting will occur in the applicant's home. If there are other people living in the home, they also will be interviewed by the social worker.

The home study process, the contents of the written home study report, and the time it will take to complete varies according to each case, the international adoption requirements, and how fast the necessary documentation is gathered. 

Documents Needed to Validate Home Study
ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED PRIOR TO COMPLETION OF FINAL HOME STUDY REPORT.  COPIES OF ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS ARE ACCEPTABLE.

1.- PROOF OF BIRTH
A.  Copies of birth certificates or
B.  Notarized copy of driver license or
C.  Notarized copy of passport.

2.- MARRIAGE LICENSE.

3.- DIVORCE DECREE/DEATH CERTIFICATE

4.- THREE LETTERS OF REFERENCE FROM NON-RELATIVES

5.- IRS 1040 OR W2’S OR 1099’S for last tax season
Financial assessment that includes a description of the income, financial resources, debs, and expenses.

6.- EMPLOYMENT LETTERS
     Include length of employment, job title, and salary on company letterhead.

7.- STATEMENT OF NET WORTH IF SELF-EMPLOYED.

8.- PHYSICIAN’S REPORTS.

9.- HRS CHILD ABUSE REGISTRY BACKGROUND CHECK.
You may make an appointment with the Department of Children and Families background check for fingerprinting. This has to be done for every adult member of the household.  This process is by a computer (no dirty fingers).  The cost is $57.25 per person payable in a money order.  Please get information at : 305- 377-5055 
 
10.- LOCAL POLICE CLEARANCE.

INCLUDED IN A HOME STUDY
• Personal and family background-including upbringing, siblings, key events, and what was learned from them
• Significant people in the lives of the applicants
• Marriage and family relationships
• Motivation to adopt
• Expectations for the child
• Feelings about infertility (if this is an issue)
• Parenting and integration of the child into the family
• Family environment
• Physical and health history of the applicants
• Education, employment and finances-including insurance coverage and child care plans if needed
• References and criminal background clearances
• Summary and social worker's recommendation.
