Couples get together when in love with the intention that their relationship will be long lasting. However, current statistics show that 50 % of all marriages end in divorce. Many issues develop overtime in any relationship.
Feelings seem to change, there are brakes in communication and the two people begin to drift from each other. Irritability, frustration and emotional withdrawal are among the symptoms present in a relationship that is “not working” As time passes and nothing is done about the issues that are breaking the relationship the emotional stress becomes critical and couples discuss separation or divorce. There are couples that stay together and they simply become emotionally divorced.
To make a relationship work is a challenge most the times. Some couples do not seem to find solutions to their conflicts and may decide to get an outside source to help.
Seeking marital counseling is difficult for most people because the perception is that they have to get a stranger to hear their problems and maybe take sides, and that this stranger will loose objectivity and pass judgment on either one of the couple.
The truth is that there are many professional psychotherapists that have been trained and have experience in couple’s counseling and they are able to offer a non-judgmental, safe and objective environment for couples. The couple can find a safe place to work out their conflicts and improve their relationship.
